Google has emailed some advertisers to say that from 12 October 2026, Google Ads will automatically identify promotions on their website, such as coupons and deals, and apply them to their campaigns as promotion assets.
Google's help centre describes Automated promotions as an AI-powered feature that sources, validates and displays deals and offers from your website and other sources. For now it applies only to Search and Performance Max campaigns that use linked location assets and do not already have promotion assets attached.
It is opt out. If you do nothing, it can start showing offers in your ads.
Why it matters
Most of the time an accurate, current offer helps an ad. The risk is everything else on your website: an expired sale banner, a members-only price, a deal with conditions, or a franchise or regulated offer that needs sign-off before it is advertised.
What to do
- Check whether your campaigns use location assets (usually a linked Google Business Profile).
- Open the account-level automated assets report and look for promotions Google has added.
- Tidy up old or conditional offers on your website so they are not picked up.
- If every offer needs approval, go to account-level automated assets settings, find Automated promotions and set it to Off.
Not every advertiser received Google's email, so treat this as a check rather than assuming your account is affected.
If Ven runs your Google Ads, this check is already in scope for your account.
